Getting started with Relaytivity
From sign-up to race day, plus the recaps after.
Step 1: Captain: create your race(about 15 min)
Sign up, then create a race: choose your relay, name your team, and set your team's start time (your wave). Add runners with their typical pace per mile and assign legs, or leave spots open for teammates to fill in themselves.
Predictions adjust every leg for hills, heat, night running and fatigue.
The captain here is whoever sets up your team's plan. It doesn't have to be your official team captain: anyone can do it, and you can add co-captains later.
Step 2: Invite your team
In your race, tap Share.
- Teammates link: send it to your team's group text. Teammates sign in, pick which runner they are, and can update their own pace until the race starts. On race day, anyone on the team can enter actual times.
- Fan link: for family and friends to follow along. No sign-up needed.
Only captains change legs and other runners. Make someone a co-captain from the Share screen.
Running yourself? Tap This is me on your runner in the Runners tab, and your legs get highlighted on the schedule.
Step 3: Put it on your phone
Open your link on your phone, then add it to your home screen so it opens full-screen like an app:
- iPhone (Safari): Share button โ Add to Home Screen (not in the list? tap Edit Actions at the bottom). You'll sign in once more inside the home-screen app; that's normal.
- Android: โฎ menu โ Add to Home screen or Install app.
Step 4: Preview before race day
On the Leg-by-Leg Schedule, tap Try mid-race or Preview a time to see exactly how the app looks during the race: who's on course, the estimated runner position on the map, and exchange ETAs. Tap Back to live when you're done.
Step 5: Race day
- Whoever's in the van enters each runner's actual finish time at the exchange. The rest of the schedule re-predicts automatically.
- No signal? Times are saved on your phone and sent when you're back in coverage.
- The Map tab shows where your runner probably is (estimated from the schedule, not GPS) and every exchange, with directions.
Step 6: Leg Recaps ๐๏ธ
After each leg, Relaytivity writes a quick, funny recap of how it went: who conquered the hills, who found some extra scenery, and who apparently had somewhere to be.
Captains pick the tone on the Recap tab: Playful, or Roast for teams that can take it. The team story sits at the top of the Recap tab and on your fan link, so family can follow along too.
